About Us
At Axolo Health, our mission is driven by a deep commitment to innovation, compassion, and transformation. We began our journey with the goal of addressing the challenges faced by amputees, particularly the debilitating experience of phantom limb pain.

Our Founders
Co-founders of the OrthoCarolina Reconstructive Center for Lost Limbs (RCLL), Drs. Glenn Gaston and Bryan Loeffler are internationally recognized leaders in upper extremity amputee care. Since its founding in 2015, RCLL has become one of the most active upper limb amputee clinics in the U.S. and a global leader in comprehensive amputee care. Its multidisciplinary model is setting new standards for patient-centered rehabilitation.
In 2017, they pioneered the Starfish Procedure, enabling the world’s first amputee to achieve individual finger control of a prosthetic hand—an innovation featured on CNN and Fox News. Beyond this landmark achievement, their team continues to advance novel surgical techniques and prosthetic innovations that have improved intuitive myoelectric control and expanded independence for amputees worldwide.
Together, Drs. Gaston and Loeffler have contributed over 70 peer-reviewed publications and numerous national and international presentations, shaping the field of amputation care and prosthetic science. Their work has been recognized with multiple awards from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), SOMOS, and the prestigious JE Hanger Award for Innovation.
Most recently, their collaborative research has focused on preventing and treating phantom limb pain, leading to the development of Targeted Brain Rehabilitation (TBR) and the founding of Axolo Health, which brings innovative virtual reality therapies to amputees.
